My "First" attempt ....

I hate to admit this .... but
I've NEVER cooked a turkey before, yes I'm 45 years old and never cooked a turkey
(i think wow how lucky my family has always done that).
The other day a friend was cleaning out / selling her garage freezer and had a turkey in there.
She was going to throw it out, then thought well maybe someone may want it.
She called me (not knowing my little secret) as said ..hey want a frozen turkey??
My immediate response was NO .. then i thought well what better time to try to cook a turkey, then
when it was going in the trash anyways ..
So, with a call to mom for advice, some time spent on the internet ..
2 days defrosting time... in the fridge...
it was time!!!
I pulled out the bird, removed the wrapping, stuck my hand in the god awful hole to pull out
a gross looking neck and a baggie of who knows what (all went straight the trash)
and washed him good...
I  seasoned him and put him in the oven..
Listening to my mom (who always makes a good turkey) not the internet or my friend
I proceeded to cook and cook and cook my turkey.
By the way this whole process was started at 2pm, i don't know why...
Finally at 10:30pm he looked done, it had been the right amount of hours and according to
my thermomter was the right temperature, so out he came. He actually looked pretty good.
So becoming very proud of my self, I let him set for another 1/2 hour to cool..and admired my first turkey.... It's now time to carve...I cut into this turkey and juice ran everywhere..
I didn't know what to cut or even what parts to cut .. Mark was no help either..
After 10 minutes of cutting and inspecting ..not sure if it was done or what to do,
didn't want to my family to die of poisening if it wasn't done and juice still everywhere,
Mark pulled out a large green trashbag and with in 5 mintues our mess was gone!!!
Don't think i'll ever try that again...
It looked good, may have tasted good, may have been done, may not have been done ...who knows,
to much stress over a damm turkey!!
I'll stick to eating them not cooking them...
